Grade 3/4 Virtual Field Trip- The Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village

This week, our Grade 3/4 class was able to connect with the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village for a virtual field trip.  The interpreters lead the students back in time to see how Ukrainians in Alberta celebrated Easter 100 years ago and how those traditions continue today.  They also learned how to make a pysanka and the importance of pysansky in Ukrainian Easter celebrations.

After the presentation, the children traced traditional images onto paper to create a painting of a pysanka.  These turned out beautifully and decorate their bulletin board in the hallway.  They also dyed real eggs and made their own pysanky using the traditional technique they learned.

Photos of this activity can be found in our photo gallery: Grade 3/4 Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village Virtual Field Trip.
